There is a new documentary out about Elon Musk, perhaps the most influential American since the great industrialists of the Twentieth Century, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, and J.P. Morgan. Musk alone has been responsible for driving the American space program, and with his visionary look into a future of space exploration, development, and economic productivity he stands at the very forefront of American science and technology.
Not only that, his enterprises, exploring advanced cybernetics, have developed the technology to enable the blind to see and have paved the way for a complete integration of mind and machine, expanding the very notion of virtual reality.
He is at the forefront of high-tech transportation and communication, and has been a driving force to reverse the censorious trend in social media and to assure freedom of speech.
He has been the leader of the genius cluster - Huang, Ellison, Page, Amodei, Brockman, himself, and others who together are responsible for the revolutionary new world of cybertechnology and artificial intelligence. Such clusters occur once in generations - the aforementioned industrialists, the Founding Fathers, the 19th century Russian authors - and have a historic impact on society.
The makers of the documentary, and the editorial critics of progressive journals such as The New Yorker and The Atlantic have been quick to support the film's contention that Musk is a danger to America, a man of untoward political ambition, of untold wealth used to manipulate and reconfigure America's socio-economic system, a man of excessive appetites, dismissive morality and more.
The Left has heralded the documentary as an 'I-told-you-so' manifesto, a justification of their hatred of the man as a usurper, a devil in disguise, an anti-democratic racist bigot and more. Their hatred has almost matched their virulence against Donald Trump.
'Hate me if you want', Musk recently told a BBC interviewer with the same progressive agenda of mistrust and scorn of American progressives, 'but I build things, you just try to tear them down'.
This is at the heart of Musk hatred. It is a matter of envy, jealousy, and failed dreams - the core of American progressivism.
It is no surprise that the American Left has spent years trying to destroy Donald Trump - false accusations, frivolous lawsuits, nonstop vicious, reflexive attacks on his every program, policy, and initiative without once offering a substantive, intelligent rebuttal or sensible programs of their own.
Trump like Musk is a doer - a genius entrepreneur in the true American way. He has succeeded in the most competitive, brutal, and unforgiving marketplaces in America - New York real estate and Hollywood; and then become a two-time President of the United States.
He is a man of wealth, influence, allure, and canniness and proud of it. He is a showman, a vaudevillian, a Borscht Belt tummler, a lover of arm candy, yachts, and resorts. He is outspoken, unashamed of his bourgeois taste, intolerant of stupidity and self-righteousness.
Progressives say they hate him, but what's to hate about the first real American President? Progressives hate Trump for all its lowbrow instincts. They hate every sequin, every strand of tinsel, every waft of cheap perfume, every high-bosomed line dancer, ever bit of glitter. They do not hate Trump because of his alleged crimes and misdemeanors, but because of who he is.
He has had all they ever wanted - wealth, women, yachts, and la dolce vita. They, squirreled away in their carrels, on marches, in conferences, and in confessionals, have had none of it and can only dream of such abandon. A life of good causes is dire, gloomy, and dark.
Trump is an American president whose populism reaches out to the pig farmers, cowherders, and housewives of America who want what they can't have - a bourgeois, cotton candy St. Tropez crowd who could care less about January 6th, secret documents, or payoffs to call girls.
American progressives might cite ghetto Baby Mommas and male sexual irresponsibility as things holding back the evolution of the black community, but white men wish they had that same sexual imperative. They wish they could fuck with abandon, have serial lovers, babies with ten women, and lead an unchallenged macho life closer to maleness than they, fearful and timid can ever even approach.
And so it is with Elon Musk, a man with many women and scores of children by them. A man of virility, confidence, wealth, and power who can do as he pleases and attracts women wherever he goes. Who wouldn't want to be him? And since they can't be, they go on a vengeful, hateful, jealous attack hoping to bring the man down and make him more like them.
The same is true for the genius cluster of Huang, Page et. al. Would that carping critics had even a fraction of their brains, ability, desire, and influence. These men sit at Presidential state dinners, meet foreign dignitaries, travel on Air Force One and enjoy all the privileges that America has to offer. They have done nothing but put heart and soul into innovation, creativity, and productivity, and they are recognized by this particularly forward-looking president for it.
Yet, they are not cast in this essentially American, patriotic role; but as villains, power-hungry, greedy men only anxious to accumulate vast wealth on the backs of the poor. 'Oligarchs', editorial writers of the New York Times, The Atlantic, The New Yorker and other media called them, bemoaning the unholy, undemocratic concentration of wealth and power residing in them.
These media howled with one voice - remove Trump and remove the oligarchs from their positions of undue influence and power - but again, these men had done nothing but revolutionize the American economy and enabled it to meet the challenges of China while preparing society for a radically changed world. Why the caviling, meanness, and spurious attacks?
Jealousy, envy, and failed dreams yet again. The Left - politicians and their media acolytes - have run on supposition. Wealth is inherently bad, insidious, and the instrument of deformed power. Individualism is the handmaiden of intellectual and moral corruption, etc. etc.
Who does the Left lionize? The least able, the least productive, the dysfunctional, and the irrelevant. The America the Left envisages is a 'diverse' one - that is a society whose principle and primary quality is racial difference, identity, and inclusion.
Every program and policy of the Left is geared to that end. The best and the brightest are forgotten in public schools which limn the praises of and single out the least able. Affirmative action dumbs down the best colleges and universities. Public monies are not spent on encouraging the brilliant but propping up the least able.
It is a feelgood, idealistic, fantastically ignorant program that ignores reality, the markers of intelligence and insight, and consigns those who might make a difference and be the next Elon Musk or Jensen Huang, to coloring between the lines.
Instead of the meme 'I want to be like him', the progressive meme is 'Whatever you do, don't be like him'. The hypocrisy of this mindboggling. Of course you should want to be like Elon Musk. Who wouldn't; and except for the Baby Mommas, what progressive really wants to have black street creds, a posse, a tricked-out Cadillac, and a silver grill, the very essence of black inner city culture so lionized by them?
Sour grapes is hardly the name for such hateful jealousy. It is pernicious, insidious characteristic of a failed political philosophy which has found a particular constituency in the least intelligent among us.
